Using a Money Transfer App Vs. Desktop Application
– What Would You Recommend?
When it comes to transferring money abroad the client has two prominent options (if he is using a top-notch money transfer currency transfer companies that actually enables a mobile access). Each of these two options has its own advantages and disadvantages. Here is a table we have created in order to help you consider the alternatives:
Mobile Apps
Pros and Cons
- Easy to use
- Always There
- Zero Complexity - most straightforward
- Instant
- Prone to Errors
- Unable to Speak on the Phone While Transferring
- Cannot Multi-Tab in Browser
- Less Safe than PC
Desktop/Laptop/Tablets
Pros and Cons
- Safe
- Less Prone to Errors
- In your Home Environment
- Multi-tabbing while Transferring is Easy
- You can Use the Telephone While Transferring
- Complete Fuctionality
- Less Intuitive
- Less Fun
- Unavailable on the Road
- More Time-Intense
The bottom line on mobile vs. non-mobile:
When you’re on your desktop, you can further concentrate, it is easier to multi-task and you know that you have all the various functionalities offered by your money transfer provider. This enables you, for instance, to check the interbank rates on google before performing the transaction, read the latest currency news to decide on the right timing for the transaction, or have a call with your money transfer company over the telephone or via email. We think it is the best way to go around if you are moving a significant amount of money abroad, or predicting difficulties (such as having to type the name of the recipient which is not yet saved in the system).
When you’re using a money transfer app, it is all very immediate and instant. If you want the transaction to take place as soon as possible, this is your best course of action. If you are an experienced user who has conducted many transactions and has full confidence in himself to do everything correctly, then it is very reasonable to use the money transfer app.
On the other hand, there are several security hazards to using sensitive information on apps. Mobile phones are considered generally less safe than their desktop counterparts, and Wifi networks in particular are known to be easy to hack into. Additional to the security aspect, there is the fact that typing information on mobile is prone to error, so if you are not sure you will get in everything correctly, you should lean towards using your mobile.
For me personally, it’s always the desktop application for larger transactions and the mobile app for smaller transactions.

World First (read complete review) likes to give its clients options. In addition to its dedicated dealers and intuitive online platform, World First also offers an international payments app for its clients. The app, available for both Apple and Android products, gives customers the ability to perform all kinds of foreign exchange activities from their phone or tablet – wherever, whenever. As always, there are no hidden fees. The app is currently UK-facing, but be on the lookout for the international version, which will be available soon.
World First is the go-to specialist for thousands of clients to transfer money overseas quickly, securely, and at great rates. The World First app can be the one-stop shop for clients. It currently works best for private clients. Corporations and businesses can use the app for market news and updates, but cannot make payments.
Making Payments
The payment options can help you make a payment on your way to the airport, on the train, on a boat, or anywhere else with a cellular signal – no last minute calls to your designated dealer are necessary.
Quick Trade: For the very active client, the quick trade function will change the way you make your payments. This feature allows clients who have already set up their beneficiaries to make a trade in as little as thirty seconds just a few taps and you’re finished.
Payment Tracker: Clients will always know what’s going on with their transactions by using the payment tracker. No phone calls, emails, or notifications needed. See which stage your transaction is at and where your money is at that moment.
Pay by Card: Clients based in the UK can pay with their debit cards – eliminating the need to do online banking alongside their transaction just one less thing to worry about.
Market News
While international payments are World First’s bread and butter, the app also provides a place for you to check the market and see what the rates are up to at that moment.
Currency Converter: If you’re debating whether or not to send or receive a payment that day, you can do a quick check of what type of exchange rate you could receive with this feature. This will give you an idea of what the rates are doing, and can help you decide what your next move should be.
Live Rates: Get a snapshot ofthe financial market by checking out WF’s live rates. It shows you the real time interbank rates and lets you interact with the historical data.
Market Updates: Catch up with WF’s Chief Economist and get the latest news on what’s going on in the market.
You can use all the useful tools the app offers without registering. However, if you wish to transfer money abroad, you’ll need to sing up. Don’t worry – it’s free, easy, and only takes about five minutes, and you could be sending money overseas within the hour. The app is available on iOS (Apple) and Android (Google OS). It is currently UK-facing but will soon have an international version available.

TransferWise App – iOS & Android
- Available on Android & iPhone.
- Very low fees.
- Transfer as low as 1 Pound
- Great interface.
- Reputable company rated 4 stars by us – view the TransferWise review
TransferWise is the up-and coming force in international FX transfers in the UK. It is backed by Richard Branson from Virgin, which means it has a lot of money to spend on advertising, technology and design.
Transferwise is not a traditional FX firm that buys and sells currency to clients, and handles the international transfer. It connects people on the platform allowing them to exchange currencies between them, with a fixed fee taken by TransferWise.
In theory, this should allow low exchange rates, but it is still not mature enough to compete with companies like MoneyCorp. View a currency exchange rate comparison here and an explanation of P2P Money Transfers here.
Still, TransferWise offers an incredible app that is very well-liked by its target audience. Its overall rankings on sites like TrustPilot are also extremely positive. People love the simplicity, comfort, and prompt support TransferWise offers, and we tend to agree that this is one of the best money transfer apps.

World Remit is a UK-based company established in 2010, with funding of over USD 40M. The owner, Ismail Ahmed, is a veteran in the world of remittance, and the company’s focus is on global reach while maintaining reasonable costs.

The App
The WorldRemit app, available for the majority of mobile devices, is great. Simply put, it allows you to make the transactions you want, on the go. Nice Article
Until recently, the only mobile app for money transfers I ever used was Venmo. But now I started using Transferwise and seems very good.
Question: Is there another company that works similar to Transferwise but with a better exchange rate for USD to EUR? I don’t transfer big amounts but I will take any discount I can get 🙂
