XendPay Money Transfer Review

There are dozens of negative experiences described in the comment section of this review, which makes Xendpay officially the worst rated company on

My personal experience with them has been disastrous. Customer service is alien to them. There is no customer service! No matter how man time you email them there is no response back. Most pathetic service that i have ever experienced from by transferring money with Xendpay! i would prefer using any other transfer agent than yourself and i wont mind paying few extra Quids for 100 times superior service. its been 2 days and my money is still lying with Xendpay. however in reality it only takes 3-4 hours for them to be transferred. i have been transferring it for so many years now. No email, no revert of my message for even a simple word of Apology for there pathetic services rendered to there customers. I just hope this company is not fraud – mentioning so many fake good reviews on various websites and big claims.Varun Tandon, February 3, 2016

Company Information and Credibility

Company size:

Xendpay is a remittance transfer company. Similar concept to Azimo, Transferwise, Currencyfair, and World Remit. Founded in 2012 by Rajesh Agrawal of RationalFX, the business has grown to serve customers all around Europe, with offices in England, France, and Spain. In their three years of operations, Xendpay has transferred over $5 billion.

There wasn’t much media exposure to the company, besides this Yahoo! Finance slam at their claims.

It’s unknown how many clients it has, or how much money has been transferred via its platform, considering the stats published relate to the entire Rational Group (which includes RationalFX). Even combined, these two companies are considerably small than large companies like World First, Currencies Direct, or Moneycorp.

Though its founder is quite decorated (getting media and industry recognition), and there are nice initiatives from the company (like free transfer to Nepal to assist with the situation there), the company itself hasn’t won any awards.

Regulated By:

FCA, HM Revenue & Customs (UK) – Through RationalFX

Xendpay by itself is a very small player in the remittances, and money transfer market. We always prefer to go with bigger companies, with more proven track record.

Client Feedback

There are more than 600 reviews on TrustPilot. The average score there is 8.0 / 10.0. There are 18 reviews on ReviewCentre. The rating is 2.4 / 5 there.

Out of the ~650 reviews, in total, there are well over 100 complaints. That means every sixth client was not happy with the services he has received.

Also, there are multiple forum discussions with very strong accusations towards Xendpay, as well as several complaints on our comment section, describing very unfortunate situations. Update: The complaints are accumulating and we have been forced to decrease Xendpay’s score even further.

Those who liked Xendpay spoke about things like:

  • How easy it is to sign up with them
  • How smooth the transfer went
  • How good were the rates
  • How prompt was the service
The 100+ complaints we have reviewed have discussed a variety of topics. Including:

  • Bad Service (vast majority of complaints)
  • Transfers not passing through
  • Requesting further documentation
  • Very slow transfers
  • Lack of transparency

Some of the complaints are obsolete. It happens, with commercial money transfer companies, as well as with banks, that the regulator insists on more documents before a wire can go through.

Things that relate to transparency and pricing might not be relevant anymore, considering the fact the company has switched to a different payment model (more on that below).

Some of the complaints are disheartening us from ever recommending services for any purpose. There are so many complaints in regards to slow service, or lack of communication, that there’s must be some truth in that. When dozens of people complain about transfers being stuck, without a phone call from Xendpay to explain the situation, it’s signifies something is not working properly on the service front, which we find highly important.

Exchange Rate & Fees

There’s a different payment model here named Pay What You Want. That basically means that all transfers are fee-free, based on the current exchange rate, and you can choose to pay any amount you’d like.

This only applies to transfers below the 2,000 Euro mark per year. Above that figure you will have to pay their default rates, which are not published. If you had to rely on their website’s calculator – they charge about 0.45% off of the popular currency corridors (GBP/EU/USD/AUD), which is incredibly cheap.

Limits: The minimum transfer amount is £1. Before getting verified you can send up to £900, and afterwards, in upwards of £100,000.

Though we are unsure of the business model this company is presenting, the idea of “Pay What You Want” is very noble to us. That means immigrants can transfer also money for free, and they can volunteer to pay. Sort of “pay it forward” thing. So we are paying it forward, and giving Xendpay the full score on this category.

We wanted to give Xendpay the full scoring in this category, but since money has failed to reach its destination for so many people, we have to lower our score here as well. What’s a good rate if there’s no delivery?

With their payment structure, they could have easily been crowned one of the cheapest fx companies next to Transferwise and Currencyfair.

Xendpay is geared towards foreign workers, and thus offers a very wide variety of countries to send money to, and from. The translations are professional as well.

On the other hand, the fact there’s no dedicated dealer in the process (which our best money transfer companies do offer), in addition to the complaints you could find about the company’s services, yield a poor grade in this category.

Xendpay is more for small remittance transfers of dozens or hundreds of dollars, while the other companies you mentioned tend to look for larger transfers. So in comparison to Western Union, yes, it is indeed a very good company, and for transfers larger than $500, well, I don’t know if this is really their target audience.

True, Poor service. Ideally a user expects that Xendpay checks for their payment at the end of the day after initiating money transfer. This is the 3rd Day and it says they haven’t received the Funds.

Vamsi, I dont need your 25 bucks but xendpay really is bad in customer service and lost transfer. My first transfer is pending since 2nd June 2015, and its more than two week now since money is not credited to intended account.

please avoid it for sake of saving some commission we may loose whole money.

This was the first and VERY LAST time I have ever used XENDPAY and will advocate to every thing that moves not to use them ever ever. Moreover, they deserve the NO1 spot for their Customer Service (from bottom of the list), which i can’t be assed to put it here again as last time when I even thought about their customer service, I got my blood pressure shoot up.

Unreliable transfer site : I got email confirmation and notification that the transaction is complete and the money is sent to the beneficiary bank account on 24th June. I also received the following email from one of the customer care representative – “I can confirm that your transaction was processed and funds should be credited by the end of the day”. Now on 27th June I am being informed after so many days that there was some compliance issue because of which the transaction was reverted. Although there were other transactions which went through successfully (before and after both) and all my account details have already been verified. I am also not being told the exact reason. This has caused me 200 pounds loss because of dramatic fall of pound value. Had I used Transfer-wise, like all my other transactions before, it would never happened. I repent of even trying this site and would urge everyone not to use this ever. This site is fraud.

I never expected this kind of disgusting services from a standard company like “Xendpay”.

One of the last things you want to hear is “I’ll sue you!”

I have used this money transfer service, and am very happy with it.
    – You can decide what fee you wish to pay. U can set the fee to ZERO!
    – Rate is very close to & so much better than other services
    – Rate is locked when you initiate the transfer, and won’t change later.
    – Register using xendpayreview website to get a £10 which can be used when you transfer money with xendpay.
    – You get £10 if you refer your family & friends to xendpay, and when they transfer at least a £100.

Hi Varun. Thank you for your review, and we surely do hope you get refunded as quickly as possible.
We are not surprised at all with your review, on the contrary even. There are so many negative reviews in this website and elsewhere on the internet relating to the customer service of Xendpay besides yours. Let us address the points you have raised to our best knowledge so we can shed some light:

      1. We don’t think Xendpay is a scam. Slow service and rude delivery? Definitely, according to our findings, but not a fraud. Bear in mind the company is owned by RationalFX, which is a relatively established player in the market. Xendpay is a bad enough product for us to not want to work with RationalFX, but our hunch, based on talking to their public relationships executive is that they are trying hard. She provided a ton of information on the company and its vision and we were impressed. We even increased their ranking at some stage, but as negative reviews continued flooding, and we had to revert back to the old rating you see today.

      2. It is definitely possible some reviews are fabricated as you claim, but it’s hard to know. Even if they are it’s not necessarily an indication of “scam”, it’s something widely common in the industry. We have even spotted that with Transferwise that has thousands of genuine positive reviews… and some that seem to be of promotional nature. In any case, it’s definitely possible a lot of people got good service and you happened to get the shorter end of the straw, that happens as well.

      3. The FSA not longer exists. Instead, the supervisory body is the FCA which we covered in depth on our website.

We have covered 35 companies here on; Over 15 are recommended by us. Pick one and let us know your thoughts!

I have had a terrible experience with Xendpay and certainly would never recommend them. I initiated a transfer of a reasonable sum from England to Czech Republic on 13th January. Only after two weeks of waiting, and after I emailed them, did they reply telling me there was an error in beneficiary account details. Czech bank accounts have a pre-fix and the Xendpay form does not account for this when inputting details. A manager within their company told me the pre-fix was a bank code and not part of the account number, which I found was nonsense as the bank in Czech Republic told me otherwise. I was worried the money would go to the wrong account and was given an assurance only the right account would be credited.

As expected the wrong account has been credited. Initially Xendpay offered no apology until I wrote to them and called them. Unfortunately their communication has been very poor and customer service quite awful. Surely a reputable company would do everything to refund or help their customers if they made an error in transaction. It is the 17th February, and I have no received no word, as to whether my money will be returned to sent to the right beneficiary account. The manager who made the error in my transaction has had no courtesy to contact me and explain what has happened himself.

The fact that they transferred the money to the wrong account, after promising that would not happen, after displaying a poor knowledge or bank account formats in foreign countries, and no leaving me with no clear understanding of where my money is, I can only conclude Xendpay are either utterly incompetent or fraudulent. I would strongly advise against using them.

Unfortunately my experience with Xendpay can be best described as nothing short of an absolute disgrace. Due to some urgent family problems here in Thailand I had to convert and transfer some EUR from Italy to Thai Baht.
In the end it took them SEVENTEEN days to transfer the funds into my Thai account. They changed the expected settlement date THREE TIMES, In the last week basically I had to call them every day (at least once) as the information was either incorrect or just not forthcoming.
The only positive thing I can say about them is that they leave you free to pay whatever you want for the transaction, which is why they still have some customers, I guess. So if you don’t need your money urgently and don’t mind being messed about for 2.5 weeks, then feel free to choose Xendpay’s services.
Personally I think I’ll give them a wide berth in the future – probably I wouldn’t choose them even if the transaction was offered to me free of charge. That just sums up how bad they are.

I had the same experience. I received request for money to be transferred into their account because they made a triplicate payment. I thought it was a scam e-mail (scary, as that would mean a massive leak of confidential transaction info) initially but all the details look legit. I was paying for some goods with the transfer, so obviously I am not going to reimburse them for their own mistake… like wtf? Now I am afraid they can charge the money themselves from my own account, will have to cancel my debit card. What a mess, do not use this company as they are either frauds or have no clue how to manage a financial business.

Thinking about it some more, I would look into this more, if you guys can, this could still be some scam, as there is no trace of triplicate payment in my account once I log in on Xendpay website, and scammers target victims just through e-mail. Hi Maria,

The email my mum received was form the same template and from the same person… I was doubtful it was scam because the account was genuine and all details of original transaction were genuine (unless xendpay were hacked which was what I was looking for before my last post)

We had sent the money to a distant relative in US who happen to have his own business and a lot of movement happening on his account and he did not notice, they finally managed to check and it looks like they have 500$ more on their account that is in their accounting records which would mean xendpay did make the mistake they claim…
However since we never asked for that money to be sent I am in the same mindset as you and I might check out what is my legal situation is with local police station (I don’t think police would do much if you sent money by mistake to someone for you to get this money back and I assume Xendpay can’t do much either); I have little remorse in my distant relative keeping this money in the expense of Xendpay, rather than going other extra-miles of having checked all his accounts for several months, then ask him to send me back the money and incur transfer charges, time of all those involved is not free so I won’t in any case be likely to agree to send what I’m asked in full to cover stress and time lost in that process…
Anyway in your case, since you sent to a company, if you explain them the situation is up to you, I would pass the details to xendpay to get in touch with that company directly and see if they want to colaborate and probably add xendpay to your spam list afterwards so you don’t have to see their emails again…

No, I did not, I do not have a personal relationship with the recipient, it was a payment for an online purchase. But yeah, would be interesting to find out if they did indeed receive that additional money, or not. The whole thing smells so bad of scam-like fishing for gullible people since I am under no legal obligation to refund them whatsoever. If anything, they should contact the bank where the money had gone once they realised the mistake.

I agree that they could have just recalled the transfer! It makes absolutely no sense for them to ask you to reimburse them, as you didn’t “gain” anything from the fact they have mistakenly sent the money twice (or thrice). With that being said we do not have a legal expert on our team, so take our opinion with a grain of salt.

      Good point,

I checked further for situation in UK to wrong person, you can get it back though it is hard work in some cases so I guess it’s easier to bother/involve you (if the recipient does not colaborate you would have to go to court)…
Not sure if something similar exist or is any easier for US, but I’ll direct xendpay this way as they obviously are in touch with the wrong person if they sent money to some bank by mistake they should reach that bank.

        Hi Julien,

My advice would be to contact your bank for advice, or someone who is highly knowledgeable with the banking system’s standards. Our opinion is that Xendpay should be able to recall false transactions by contacting the recipient bank.

We will try to look into it ourselves. Thank you for all the valuable input.

Tried a £2k transfer to Thailand last month, they sent me an email asking for confirmation or where I was at the time of the transaction (does it matter ?)
I replied, it didnt bounce, but no transfer too place despite the fact they had my £2000
Two weeks later I get another email asking why I never replied to the first, so i called them… they did answer promptly, and said they would refund the £2k, and could I do another transfer today which they said they would effect immediately. Which they did, but with no real compensation as to the £25 I lost in the exchange rate change.
And today, I thought I would stick with them, only to find they have removed the ability to offer a voluntary payment of less than they suggest.
And if you look at the rate now, well Transferwise are coming out ahead !

    Very Poor Service.

I have transferred my money on 22nd June 2016 and I am still yet to receive. Very pathetic customer service and they never reply to my mails or take calls. I am really worried if it would reach or not. I had used transferwise for sending a bulk amount at the same time and I had received the amount immediately. xendpay status says “It is closed” and recipient has received the amount. I have no idea why on the earth they have closed the status before getting any acknowledgement from the banker.

    Hi all,

I am not a salesman here.. but this incident happened with me during brexit day and i am sursprised how Xend pay gambled with my transaction to save their currency losses… ys i made a loss of 2000gbp in less than 24hrs… a pure gamble from xendpay.

I have been sending money with xend pay last 1year but while i initated a transaction of 16k gbp on just before brexit day… trnasaction was cancelled without any information was shared with me while hald of the payments were already recievd with xendpay.

Even the complaints time says its complaince issue..while they have breached their own terms and conditions in serviing the customer… the only catch here is my rate was best while i booked the transaction and made payments… as the brexit news came over currency fell down meanwhile xend pay played its gambling cancelling the trnasaction for which payment is already recived then labbled it as complaince… but this transaction is completly FCA complaint thus canot be rejected.

Can any expert advice me on how should i take this issue to highest level….. even the complaints team of xend pay dosent want to reply to emails… calls are not entertained.. seeee the way my situation is now…

please let me know what should i do now to settle this legally

Hi Prashanth. As you can see on our extensive comment section – you are not alone in this. There are several complaints about delayed services and missing out on the (good) exchange rate. We were very sorry to hear you lost a substantial amount of money, but I’m afraid we cannot provide any legal advice, because we are not qualified to do so.

Thanks for your prompt reply.. Not just the comments from out here but i could see massive customers with whom xendpay played during brexit season…

Link from trustpilot given below which is an evidence to proove the large customer base impacted with this gambling.

I understand legally you cannot give any advice but while you see this impact on larger customers.. how best can you help to stop this transparent corruption which no authority has control over it..

Thanks for the references. Indeed there are additional clients complaining about the same issue. I would suggest speaking directly to the FCA and ask them to inquire about it.

I find this review surprising as I’ve made excellent experiences with xendpay so far. After testing it first with very small amounts, it earned my trust and I’m using it now on a regular basis for transfers from a German to an American checking account. Xendpay effected all 11 transfers within 4 to 6 banking days. I’m not aware of any other service that would transfer amounts between 500 and 1500 € for total costs as low as 1 to 4 €. Considering the incredible rate, I don’t mind the delay. So far I had no reason to contact customer service though.

Hi Ike, thank you for the valuable feedback.
I am glad you were not forced to use Xendpay’s support.

Could you please let us know how you reached the conclusion the service costs as little as 1-4 Euros?
Did you calculate their proposed exchange rate against the real mid market rate?
At these costs they are indeed the cheapest but that business model makes absolutely no sense.

Also 4-6 working days is a major delay. All competitors would be easily handle it within 24h.

        Sure. For instance:

        Transferred on April 29, 2016: EUR -1.002,00
        Credited on May 6, 2016: USD 1,143.16

Xendpay gave me a rate of 1 EUR = 1.14316 USD and I chose to pay EUR 2.00 as a voluntary fee. As far as I recall that rate was at least very close to the mid market rate, but please let me know, if I’m mistaken.

I’ve been wondering about their business model too. Anyhow, as regular bank transfers used to take at least as long and were way more costly, I’m quite happy to have found this option to save transaction fees.

All in all I’m quite content with xendpay. However, I agree that it’s probably not the best option, if time is of the essence.

Hi, I really appreciate the fact you came back here to add all the information.

          – The rate you are describing looks to be very close to the mid-market rate, but since the rates constantly change also intra-day, it’s hard to say whether this was the exact mid-market rate at the moment or if there’s a markup embedded in this price.

          – Business model: I can tell you I’m quite involved in the fx industry, as I am the editor of this website which is possibly the biggest of its kind, and if I don’t understand their grand plan, it’s an alarming sign. At first I thought they just have a noble idea in which those who have little will pay no fees what-so-ever, and those who can afford fees will pay normal fees.. but that doesn’t make sense. The 2 Euros you have paid are less than their own costs for moving this amount of money. 5 Euros will not cover it, even, and those are just direct payment costs. What about hedging? Service? Salaries? Compliance? I don’t want to speculate what’s going on but I don’t get a very good feel myself.

          – Banks who take a whole week to move money EU-US: Which banks did you use, Ike? Perhaps the speed is state-dependent?

          – Did you experiment with any other providers so far? Would you like to?

          Thanks again.

            – I see you points and agree that there may be something off. I still hope they just found a smart way to cut out a bunch of intermediaries. By the way, the “pay-as-you-like” model only applies for transfers totaling EUR 2000 per year. After that you’ll have to pay the suggested fee (which still seems slightly lower than for instance transfer wise)

            – I experienced slow and expensive wiring when I went grad school in New York. As I had to move large sums for the tuition fees, I started transferring money from the German banks Postbank and DKB to Citibank in NY and was quite annoyed by a bunch of hidden fees. Later I abstained from wiring money as I found a workaround: I saved a lot by withdrawing cash using my German credit card and depositing it right away on my US account at the very same ATM. (This only worked because my bank didn’t charge any fees for cash withdrawals, converted the currencies at the daily visa exchange rate and set no limit for cash withdrawals.) As I’m living in Germany now, but still own and use my US account, I’m delighted that there are cheaper ways to wire money nowadays then back in 2013.

            – So far I’ve only used Xendpay and would continue as it has been working fine for me. Of course I’m also prepared to try out alternatives that appear less dubious and offer acceptable rates.

Thank you Ike, for the valuable information. It seems you’ve done your preliminary research :)

            – We will incorporate the information about the Pay As You Like Model limitations. Indeed it seems like the suggested fees are a tad under Transferwise’s at ~0.45% for EU/USD transfers.

            – I ensure you they didn’t find a “smart way” that others haven’t figured out. As a RationalFX company, they have strong backing, and can focus on client acquisition rather than profit at this stage. Similarly to Transferwise and Currencyfair which I believe are not profitable (they raise more and more money each round, totaling at $100m each!).

            – Xendpay promises a 1-2 day wire on their website between Germany and the USA. So I Can understand 7 days may sound acceptable to you, but they are not standing up to their commitment which is something we most certainly not appreciate.

            – It’s a nice setup you had as a student in the USA :) It’s very scarce to find banks who don’t charge exorbitant fees on cash withdrawals with an foreign debit card… you have literally found a loophole :)

            – I am also happy to see the industry is growing and it is getting easier and cheaper for people to send money abroad.

            – I cannot provide any individual financial advice, so I will make a general declaration which is already quite instilled in this review page – We do not recommend using Xendpay. There are way too many testimonials all over the internet including dozens of comments on this very page to attest that things can go awfully with them. We have actually been in direct contact with their marketing team who seemed to be very nice and professional, and absolutely loved the Pay What You Want model which has a social merit to it, and genuinely wanted to recommend them, but we can’t wholeheartedly do so considering the amounts of dissatisfied clients they have.

Absolutely frustrating experience with xendpay .Its been a month that the amount hasnt been refunded back to my account due to a failed transaction . This is after i asked multiple times whether they would be able to transfer money from South africa account to indian bank. They failed to do so and waiting for their bank for close to a month now.
They dont really care for the customers and dont have any means of tracking where the transaction failed.
    Hello Prashant,
I have just spoken to our partner bank Barclays, who has informed us that they are still awaiting for the authorisation code to drop off the payment a refund for your funds.

They have also informed me this process could take up to 21 working days.

But as the payment was cancelled on 9/08/16 21 days have nearly passed so you should be receiving it soon.

Unfortunately we cannot do anything about this as it is our partner bank which initiates the refund, all we can do is apologizes for the inconvenience

    Thank you
