How Does Payoneer Work?


The fundamentals:

Payoneer provides an innovative solutions for both private and corporate clients who need to receive payments from abroad. The way they operate is via the creation of collection accounts abroad for each client. Any payment deposited into an off-shore account is translated into the local currency as defined by the Payoneer client, and then can be wired to his bank account or alternatively, be withdrawn through any ATM with the Payoneer MasterCard.

Positive:

Here are the biggest advantages of using the Payoneer system:

  • Easy to sign up. Completely online on-boarding process.
  • A very simple solution that doesn’t require a lot of overhead attention. Once a client has been approved, he will automatically receive access to all available currencies, and be able to use any available bank account abroad.
  • It simplifies the payment process also for the payer. In fact, there are more than 200 prominent freelancer and ecommerce marketplaces (like Amazon, Google, Freelancer and Upwork) which already have Payoneer as one of the default payment solutions.
  • Payment processing is almost instant.
  • Invoices are automatically generated through the Payoneer system.
  • Clients are able to wire the money they have received on their Payoneer account back to their local bank account, or withdraw it in cash through the Payoneer MasterCard. In fact, this is a huge advantage for developing countries where banking systems are corrupt – you don’t even need a bank account in order to use Payoneer.
  • The Payoneer MasterCard can be used from almost any location around the world.
Negative:

Here are the cons of the Payoneer system:

  • You can’t send payments through the Payoneer system (with the exception of businesses who can move funds to other business-owned Payoneer accounts).
  • The Payoneer MasterCard requires an annual fee (more on that – on our fees and exchange rate section).
  • The Payoneer MasterCard is a limited debit card which can’t be used for certain activities like gambling.
  • Payoneer clients are limited to a subset of locations around the world where they can open a bank account.

Conclusion:

Payoneer provides solutions which are simply unattainable by any other means. Online sellers who receive large payments from abroad have several similar alternatives, but when it comes to private clients, none of the foreign exchange companies we have reviewed on this website offers these sort of solutions.

In our opinion, Payoneer provides a PERFECT solution for people who receive their salary from abroad, as well as for businesses who get paid by overseas clients.

Conclusion:

Payoneer’s banking fees are not the lowest we have encountered in this industry, but it’s hard to compare them with other companies reviewed on our website because the nature of their service is so unique. VIP clients, though, can get great rates if their volumes justify it.

Nothing can be simpler than accepting payments directly into a Payoneer account and using a dedicated debit card to withdraw it through the ATM, especially for people who reside in countries like Russia, the Ukraine, India, or any other developing/high-risk countries.

In addition to the fact they accept clients on a global scale and offer them with superb solutions, they have local bank accounts in many countries. Thus, the recipient of funds through a wire transfer can enjoy a domestic transfer of funds in local currency when he withdraws funds form the account, and skip the exorbitant fees applied by banks on receiving international wire transfers.

The only real vice is the slowness of service. It takes 5 days to get a response from support after signing up and it can take a whole month or more to receive your Mastercard debit card.

They have horrible Customer support. it takes them 5 business days sometimes to get bank to the customer. Chat is not helpful and makes you wait for the email for unknown period of time.

International call line does not work and it seems they are not planning to do anything about it. people complain and they either don’t respond, or respond and tell them to wait. It’s not clear how to withdraw funds from your payoneer account. you need to wait months (sometimes 8 months) to receive payoneer card. There are a lot of issues with bank transfers.       From our testing we can say it did take 5 days to get an initial response upon sign-up, but the Mastercard was sent quite briefly and bank transfer was possible instantly.

    I paid an online seller in Spain with Payoneer and got confirmation from both my bank and Payoneer that the money had been taken from my account. However, 12 days later, the seller’s website is still showing it as not received.

    The seller is not responding to questions and, for that matter, neither is Payoneer.

    Buyer protection seems to be non-existent and I will NEVER use them again and I wouldn’t dream of recommending them. With paypal, it’s easy – I just raise a dispute but there appears to be no equivalent process in Payoneer.

    Having used both Paypal and payoneer payoneer for years I would say that they are basically the same in terms of what they offer and problems that come up when using their services.

    However, when it comes to customer service PAYPAL win hands down. Paypal usually respond within the day and within hours to urgent matters. Payoneer take days and days to respond to even the most urgent of issues, often too late to do anything to resolve the problem

    Hi I used Airhelp with the recommendation from Martin Lewis website because I had a flight cancelled. The process has took 8 months, Airhelp have now used Payoneer to transfer the payment to me, I am still waiting from 24/11/16. Also beware Airhelp take 25% of the payout.

    Our company switched from ADP which was fabulous in that I got my pay on the exact day I was supposed to to Payoneer which means I now have to wait an additional 4 days for my pay. In this day and age what company has to take 4 days to make a direct deposit? ADP had no issue with it. Paypal has no issue with it. They tell me it’s my bank that is causing the issues but there’s no delay with other payment sources. Processing gets cancelled multiple times and when I ask about them I get told its a technical issue and apparently a technical issue that isn’t that uncommon because my co-worker had it happen on the last pay period as well BUT if you’re willing to pay a fee it magically gets deposited the very next day but they say it is supposedly the same process. Someone high up in Payoneer is making some pretty nice profit off our money while its sitting somewhere making interest for them for four days. Incredibly disappointed with this company and payment system.

    So, let’s make a full review of Payoneer. I applied for a Payoneer Master Card two month ago, It wasn’t fast and my first card didn’t arrive in time.After 1 week of waiting, I asked the support via e-mail, but they didn’t answer me for another week. So I tried to ask them via chat, but the chat Isn’t available at this time or the chat is full. After 6 days of waiting and clicking the chat button, I finally could get In contact with the support(It’s easier to contact Aliens, than the Payoneer support). At this time I ordered my Card with DHL, but It costs me around 40$. It’s expensive, but my friend Payoneer told me that I’ll get 25$ when I signup for their service(I asked the support, but didn’t receive anything, even If I clicked the right URL), but this isn’t the biggest problem.So firstly let’s talk about the biggest problem in Payoneer for me:
1)I lost 130$ and didn’t get them back, I made two transfers to my bank in Ukraine and I asked the support 7 times because of this. Everything they told me is to wait 3 days and they’ll send me an email. I didn’t receive an email in 3 weeks.
2)This problem is connected with the support.If you want to speak or chat with them, you must wait 20 – 40 minutes. Before I chat with them, I wrote a ready text with my problems. But somehow they didn’t even read It and ask me from a copy/past text. After I answered twice, they’ll tell me that I’ll get my 130$ in 3 days in a very bad English(my isn’t better, but from a company in the USA I’d wish more).
    Even here on sitejabber the Payoneer team lie about looking at your problem. I never get any response from them too.
    So the last thing I want to tell you, don’t ever apply for this Card, after reading all of this posts in sitejabber I’d wish that I found It earlier. I’m very sorry that you lost 100$,500$,1000$ or more. I’m very disappointed of this service and I’m very disappointed that I could not buy Christmas presents for my family because of this problems.

    Terrible experience with Payoneer…

    Subscription process was very quick, about a couple of hours.

    After receiving confirmation that my application had been approved , I sent out a few payment requests. As soon as the first payment arrived, I got an email from Payoneer, asking me to complete my application form!

    I thought it’d been approved.

    I quickly go to the website, answer a few more questions, then after 5 days or so, I get a reply that there’s a problem with my address and I need to send another proof of residence. I reply asap, explaining my situation and asking for guidance… Practically, I’m a French national , living in China, with a bank account in Germany.

    About a week later, I get a reply asking me for a German ID, although I explained I was a French national or an address in France, where I haven’t lived for more than 10 years… Ok, I understand that my situation is not simple but this should have been dealt with when I was sending my application, not after I receive my first payment.

    Fine… I then ask for a refund of the payment back to the sender and to close the account.
    It’s now been more than a week and I’m still waiting for a reply, not even some acknowledgement that my email has been received and is being dealt with.

    It simply isn’t acceptable for an online business to take such a long time to reply and handle your support request so badly.

        Yes your system did not send me the email for asking about the documents even though I have already provided them at the time of creating the account and all my payments were declined except one, and money was not refunded to client nor to me you guys kept hold on it and once I called and argued with you guys

        so after apologizing to me even though I should file a lawsuit against you guys for keeping my client and me in the dark and keeping all the funds with you and not notifying the user.

        Finally, on the Third week, you guys decided when I gave you a hard time to refund back the money to my client and saying sorry it was system fault

        what the hell man, if your system is not reliable then why the hell are you doing such business !!!!

    Scammers and they hang up on my phone call, they literally STOLE MY HARD EARNED MONEY!
    Keep away and I am ready to provide all evidence to anyone who would like to know how those scammers work, I have screenshots from my account and from my client’s accounts who called them and verified themselves and asked them to approve my payments but they still didn’t give a shit because they are scammers!

    I opened an account, started to receive payments from my clients, kept the money there because I thought it was a legit company, then, they did the worst back to me
    first thing, they blocked my card for no reason, i just went to withdraw some money using this card they deducted 2$ and blocked it for no reason
    second thing, a client sent me a payment, they kept it in hold for 3 days then I asked him to call them, he called them, they lied to him and told him that i’ve received the payment already, he kept calling me a scammer and I did the same and then we logged into eachother’s accounts using team viewer to see what’s wrong, I realized at that point is that payoneer is A BIG SCAM nothing more, they LITERALLY stole my money and scammed me, they took the money from the client’s account, sent him a confirmation email saying that payment was approved, and when he contacted them, they told him that I have received the payment already.

    I contacted their lame support ( WORST CUSTOMER SUPPORT EVER THEY HANG UP ON ME) the indian douchebag answered and told me that my client has to call back for details, my client called them and sent me all details he asked, then he told me sir i cannot help you with anything at the moment i understand your frustration but you have to wait forever like i cannot give you any time, just keep waiting.

    And they come here in the website write more teasing replies to the people’s reviews telling them that it’s because of the security, no its not about security.

    It’s all about Payoneer being the worst scammers ever, I will pay every single cent I made and i will make in the future to give them bad reputation everywhere online and I just hope that someone would shut down this scam bank very soon.

    I will keep posting my experience everywhere online and will buy domains just to shut them down and give them bad reputation for scamming the f*** out of me!!

    I was successfully receiving payments through Payoneer for a few months, then suddenly, on the day I was supposed to receive a payment of $516, I got the dreaded “Message from Account Approval Department” email saying that they needed more documentation. I sent more documentation but they still haven’t released my $516 and are not responding to my emails.

      This is me right now, only thing I’m not waiting on that amount of money. I ordered a new card, it didn’t come. So I ordered another one, and I get an email saying my ID needed to be re-verified. I ignored that email because I thought it was sent to me in error, and about a month later I called them. The customer rep then told me that email was legitimate and I needed to resubmit my ID because it’s low quality. WHAT NONSENSE! I’ve been using Payoneer since 2013/2014, and my ID was fine. And when I ordered a new card earlier this year, it was sent to me with no problem, even though it probably got lost in the mail. So why this nonsense now??? I acquiesced to their demands and sent a new one, even though I was so upset. I felt the urge to give the rep a poor score on the survey, but I thought it wouldn’t be fair since she was probably just parroting what she got from higher up, and bad scores reflect poorly on her pockets, so I ignored the follow-up email. But then I got a new email last night saying the proof of address I submitted doesn’t match the one I submitted earlier, and I had to resubmit a proof of address that matched what they had on their servers. WHAT???? I didn’t submit a new proof of address! By that I had had enough. I wasn’t planning on giving the first customer rep I spoke to a bad survey score, but after last night’s email I had to give Payoneer a piece of my mind. That’s absolutely horrible and poor customer service. If my info got accidentally deleted, or it expired, TELL ME! Stop giving me the run-around like I got time to waste.

    Sometimes they don’t even respond, thats how bad their customer support is. And although I know they are a legit service in other respects, and i received quite some payments trough them, interacting and navigating with their online service makes it look and feel like they have no idea what they are doing. It’s one of those websites that has not been updated for so long, that you have a feeling it’s gonna shut down any moment. The design and user experience is like a bad 2010 horror movie.

    Payoneer is a total fraud/scam. About one in five new accounts will actually receive access to funds they receive in their accounts. For the other four – the money is simply stolen by Payoneer. They should be in jail!

      That is a strong claim which we do not agree with. I met with the the company and my impression of them was overwhelmingly positive. I just think that their support staff is somewhat lacking and there are delays that shouldn’t happen and payment errors, but saying they are thieves is over the top.

        The consumer does not want to deal with a 100% robotic system it’s just un-appealing. Nobody wants to deal with staff who are trained to respond repeatedly with generic responses that don’t apply, whilst chanting the company mantras.

        People keep asking what is the alternative to Paypal? how can I get paid for my services and/or product and access that money as quickly as possible?

        Nobody seems to be able to answer that question? It’s no good asking somebody from Paypal or Payoneer because they are trained to sing the praises of the company they are employed by. One is forced to read between the lines.

        The poorer the quality of support is the more likely the consumer is going to be in demanding the replacement of humans at the support centres with AI. Is this one of the objectives? is that the vision? If it works here on Earth will it work on Mars?

        I have spent years on the phone to customer services for hours at a time having the patience of a saint, being grateful and never getting upset with the agents or supervisors despite the tedious process. In my mind the more popular a company becomes (which is of course the aim and objective of the company and investors ie: rapid growth/ increase in value of shares and the company itself before selling it for a profit) the worse the supports gets, typically deploying more and more AI technologies to cope with all that the processing which generally from my experience debilitates and hinders the service even further. There are no people to talk to most of the time, they are very hard to get hold of, you have to know how to trick the automated system by repeating speak to agent ten times before the system gives in and says OK let me put you through to somebody that can help, the option is not given the system has to be fooled, you are asked for a 6 digit number that you not requested or received from them without it you cannot proceed, so ten times; Speak to agent and you get through that and finally speak to somebody. The only thing that is made impossible is to withdraw your money to your bank account.
        You can receive and spend with the service but can not withdraw same day (3 days).

        So what are the alternatives,? what do you suggest and advise I do?

        Am I going to have the same problems with withdrawing money via Payoneer?

        It takes days for somebody to sign up for it so if they are not a member it’s still going to take days if not a week or more to make a transfer of funds.

        I am going to call Payoneer customer services first thing tomorrow to discuss.

        If anyone hear can answer any of my questions I would greatly appreciate it.

    They wait until you have enough money in your account and then they block access to your account and your funds will disappear. I have been trying to get in contact with them for a month but their customer services is useless and they will just tell you that they are looking into it. Total scam

    Ive reada number of reviews on here, and most of it sems to be about Payoneer contacting or resolving issues, I have to say that each time I spoke to them, despite being on live chat for 30 mins waiting I was able to resolve the issues I had with my account and card, I know that some transactions can take time (and Upwork like to delay payments to them) but apart from a few set ups issues the rest of the service has been great, I got my card inside 2 days (said it could take 28), transfers are instant but he costs can rise, it is better to withdraw larger amounts in fewer withdrawals than it is to do lots of little ones, I would recommend this service, it does exactly what it says on the tin

    I am just a small potato who owns a short-term rental home that I rent out through VRBO. VRBO now offers Payoneer as a means of payment processing for owners. I am considering changing to Payoneer because they seem to offer lower rates. After reading the above reviews, I will stay with my current processing company as I don’t need the customer service problems or delays mentioned above. The State, County, phone company, property manager, insurance, credit card, electric and water companies want their money on time with no hassles and so do I.
    Many thanks to all of you who have given their comments about Payoneer. You have saved me from making what probably would have been a big mistake.
